🧰 Best Practices Guide

1. 🚫 Information Loss

Second Life has a known bug: information stored in objects can be lost when making changes while the object is attached to the avatar (HUD or attachment).

🔒 How to avoid it?

Always build and edit your project with the object rezzed on the ground.

If you want to test a HUD or another item as an attachment:

  1. Copy the object from the ground to your inventory.

  2. Attach the copied item to your avatar for testing.

⚠️ The BUILD script will not perform any actions while the object is attached. It remains inactive until the item is rezzed back on the ground.

2. 📁 Organization

Keeping the project organized is essential for easier adjustments, maintenance, and to avoid errors.

🧩 Name everything clearly

  • Use descriptive and standardized names for buttons, textures, animations, sounds, and materials.

  • Avoid special characters (such as @, #, !, etc.), which may cause failures or unexpected behavior.

Examples:

  • Correct: texture_green, button_jump, sound_click

  • Avoid: @Green Button, #Jump!, ~Sound1

🔤 Prefer clean names like button_1 or anim_wave.

3. 🔐 Security

The access link to your project is personal and exclusive. Do not share it with others to keep your data and creations secure.

4. ✅ Project Finalization

When you finish development:

  1. Access your dashboard.

  2. Click the FINALIZE button.

This will:

  • Delete all assets from the object (textures, sounds, animations, etc.).

  • Remove the BUILD script.

  • Completely clean the HUD.

Result: your item will be ready for distribution with security and protection against copying.
